Why We Coach and Officiate

There are many benefits to becoming a qualified Rugby coach or official. It is a great way to stay in the sport and broaden your Rugby knowledge! You get the chance to develop yourself both personally and professionally.

Coaching or officiating is a great way to stay fit and active, as well as give back to the sport and inspire the next generation of players!

Ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, we spoke to former Canada international-turned Rugby official Julianne Zussman about why you should referee:

“I love being on the field – it’s my favourite place to be. Being in the energy of the game. Getting to be part of this intense spectacle. I just love it. I took my Level 1 through BC Rugby. I actually took it many years ago, when I was still playing 7s for the national team. We all took it. It took me retiring to get out and give it a go. For me, it’s one thing to take the course but another to actually get out there and try it. I highly recommend people just jump in. So, if you want to give it a go, take your basic course.”
