Taking place across a busy summer of Rugby for both our athletes and coaches, the BC Summer Games represents an important stage of the Rugby 7s pathway in BC. This year’s event will see eight zones battle it out on the field, giving U17/U16 female athletes the opportunity to showcase their skills in a bid for selection to the BC Bears U18 Girls 7s team that will compete at the 2024 Global Youth Sevens in New Zealand, as well as building towards the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St John’s, Newfoundland.
These programs will also work alongside our BC Bears Age-Grade XVs Programs to ensure athletes interested in both formats of the game can maximize their experiences and exposure against quality competition this year.
Rugby Sevens has been developing players since 2016 when BC started the BC Elite 7s Program supported by Amarone. This year 7s continues to rise following the successful initial Regional 7s tournament at Westshore RFC last August, and the exciting growth of the Kamloops 7s in the Fall. Alongside the return of the 2024 VSI 7s and the HSBC SVNS Vancouver this February, and the resurrection of the U16 BC Team travelling to Florida. This will no doubt be another exciting year for Rugby Sevens in BC.
BC Rugby will release a further announcement on the BC Summer Games, including contact information for each Zone, trial dates and full event page, and BC Bears 7s & XVs Pathways soon.
