BC Rugby is delighted to announce the Northern and Interior Senior Schedule for the 2024 Summer Season, culminating at the 2024 Saratoga Cup in Terrace.
This summer promises to be an exciting season of Rugby for Men’s and Women’s teams aiming to lift the Saratoga Cup in August.
Kicking off on May 5, the Northern/Interior Summer Season Schedule is divided across three regions – Central Interior Rugby, the Okanagan Rugby Union and the Kootenay Cup – and features nine Clubs at the heart of their respective communities.
Welcoming back Rucking in the Rockies, Sunfest and Calgary’s famous Stampede Sevens tournament, this season promises to be bigger and better than ever – don’t forget to register for what will be an epic summer of Rugby in BC!
2024 SUMMER SEASON: BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER!
Contrary to the Island and Lower Mainland Rugby communities, these regions play their Rugby during the summer months on account of the challenging winter weather experienced between Fall and Spring.
The Northern and Interior Leagues showcase incredible enthusiasm and passion for the sport, with Club roots and traditions running deep in these communities. Teams can travel over 10 hours across the province to face their rivals, which perfectly encapsulates the dedication and commitment shown by Clubs and players alike! Furthermore, it’s not just about the battles on the pitch – Clubs will often try and out-host each other off the pitch, too! From banquets to summer parties, the Northern and Interior Leagues represent a true festival of Rugby each year.
The season will culminate at the annual Saratoga Cup event on August 17-18, 2024, hosted in Terrace, and will feature both Men’s and Women’s competition for the third successive year.
This highly anticipated event brings together the top Men’s and Women’s teams from across these regions, and remains one of the most enjoyable Rugby weekends in the BC Rugby calendar.
“The 2024 Summer Season will be bigger and better than ever as we continue to grow the sport of Rugby throughout the province. With some big Club Days planned, as well as introducing Age-Grade and Mini Rugby into the fold, we’re incredibly proud of the work that is going on at our Northern and Interior Clubs.” – Dave Newson, BC Rugby CEO
Once again, the Saratoga Cup will be on the line in both Men’s and Women’s competitions, with the stakes higher than ever. Will the Rocky Mountain Rogues make it a four-peat after their famous treble of Championships, or can someone stop the Cranbrook side this time around?
Teams from Prince George RFC, Prince Rupert Seamen, Williams Lake Rustlers and Terrace Northmen RFC will contest the Central Interior Rugby division, while Vernon RFC, Penticton Harlequins and Salmon Arm Yeti will play out the Okanagan Division.
The reigning Saratoga Cup Men’s Champions Rocky Mountain Rogues, who have celebrated Saratoga Cup victories in 2021, 2022 and 2023, will battle it out against Elk Valley RFC for the Kootenay Cup.
The full schedule for the Summer Season can be found below and on the BC Rugby website, with matches taking place between May and August.
