UBC Thunderbirds claimed bronze at the 2025 Canadian University Men’s Rugby Championships, defeating BC rivals UVic Vikes in the bronze medal match, while UBCO Heat finished eighth in the snow-affected tournament in Montreal.
Thunderbirds extended their record of medaling at the Men’s National Championships for the eighth successive year, since the tournament began, with a 27-12 win over the Vikes in Sunday’s bronze medal game.
Guelph Gryphons were declared National Champions after defeating local side ETS Piranhas in the gold medal game.
British Columbia had representation in the Final: Shanda Assmus officiated the Men’s gold medal match, with Chris Assmus as Assistant Referee.
Thunderbirds defeated Carabines in the quarterfinals before losing out to eventual champions Guelph in the semifinals. Guelph defeated UBCO Heat in their quarterfinal encounter, while the Vikes beat Queen’s in their quarterfinal before losing out to the Piranhas in the final four.
UBCO Heat lost out 75-7 to the Dalhousie Tigers in the 7th-place match.

CUMRC AWARDS
Two UBC and two UVic athletes were named in the 1st Team All Stars, while there was also good BC representation in the 2nd Team All Stars
UBC Thunderbirds also received the Jeff Chan Spirit of Rugby Award.
