“I love having a place that I know will always be my second home.”
Capilano RFC knows championship seasons might come and go, that there will be both good times and bad times on the pitch.
But what matters most is bigger than results: it’s about being a family. The Club motto ‘Caps4Life’ demonstrates as much.
Capilano RFC has been an integral part of Vancouver’s North Shore community since its formation in 1969, when two local teams – the North Shore All-Blacks and West Vancouver Barbarians – amalgamated.
Playing out of West Vancouver’s Klahanie Park, Capilano RFC not only has a rich Rugby history – the Club has produced many Canadian internationals such as Andrea Burk, Hilary Leith, and Mandy Marchak – but is incredibly passionate about its surrounding area. The Club takes part in local blood drive donations, volunteers at community events and even hosts an annual Toy Drive that benefits local organizations.
“I GET TO PLAY A SPORT THAT I LOVE WITH PEOPLE I LOVE MORE”
Now the Club is ready to defend its Senior Women’s Premier League title when the 2022 BC Rugby Spring Senior Season kicks off on January 29. While there is an eagerness to get back on the grass, many players are thankful for the bonds that Club Rugby creates.
“I get to play a sport that I love with people I love more,” said Stacey Hake, a Senior Women’s player at Capilano RFC. “This Club made me embrace and thoroughly enjoy rugby again after a decently long hiatus of me questioning my love for the game.”
Fellow Senior Women’s player Heather Muir added: “This club has taken me in since the first day I arrived, and it’s become a huge, supportive, crazy, welcoming family ever since. #Caps4life isn’t an exaggeration, I love having a place that I know will always be my second home!”
NEW FACES ARE ALWAYS WELCOME
The Club supports players of all ages and welcomes new players of any skill level and experience to join. There are three Senior Men’s teams and two Senior Women’s teams, as well as Mini Rugby and Junior Rugby programs. The Club also features a Masters Rugby team, that plays in the Over 40s league across the Pacific Northwest.
There is Rugby for everyone at Capilano RFC, and new faces are always welcome.
“The Club has a great atmosphere and community, always welcoming to others, and has amazing Club house and field,” said Jason de Freitas, a Capilano RFC Senior Men’s player.
Senior Men’s player Jesse Ryan added: “It’s been my second home for 17 years it is full of friendships. Nothing beats stepping on the Lower Field to a full crowd at Klahanie Park on a sunny day.”
Capilano RFC Youth Boys player Tristan Pla said: “I love the club because of the great values and lessons that are taught there as well as the great ambiance. Everyone there is glad to teach others what they know. It also gives me the chance to play the sport I love.”
This Spring, Capilano RFC are competing in the BC Rugby Men’s Premier League presented by Onni, Women’s Premier League, Men’s Premier Reserve League/Division 1, Men’s Division 3 and Women’s Division 2.
