Our 2022 BC Bears Age-Grade Camps have concluded ahead of the 2022 Western Canadian Championships!
Over 220 Junior Rugby players from across BC descended on UBC’s Gerald McGavin Rugby Centre over the past 7 days for High-Performance Development and Preparation Camps.
Last week saw the BC Bears U14 Girls, U16 Boys, U16 Girls, U18 Boys and U18 Girls Squads put their skills to the test in different drills and match situations throughout their four-day Camps. This week currently hosts the U14 Boys Camp that will conclude on Thursday.
Following his Club’s 2022 Super Rugby Championship triumph, Crusaders Rugby Team Manager Shane Fletcher was in attendance to give expert insight in special sessions with each BC Bears team.
ABOUT THE CAMPS: STRONG BONDS ON AND OFF THE FIELD
For all athletes and Coaches involved, this was the first opportunity to meet their respective BC Bears players and team-mates! While living in dorms together at UBC, all participants had the opportunity to get to know each other both on and off the field. Away from the field, teams were able to share their Rugby knowledge and experiences with each other as they bonded over team-building activities such as scavenger hunts, beach nights, spike ball tournaments and more.
The Camps culminated in a series of warm-up matches against the Washington Loggers U16 and U18 Teams, as well as inter-squad Blue vs. Gold matches. It was the Blues who ran out victorious in the U14 Girls Squad game, with the U14 Boys Blue vs. Gold match taking place on Thursday.
BC Bears U16 Gold and U18 Navy Boys Teams travelled to Washington State and returned home with two big victories, while BC Bears U16 and U18 Girls Teams racked up dominant wins against their Washington equivalents in Vancouver.
The remaining BC Bears U16 and U18 Boys Teams played out an entertaining Blue vs. Gold match at UBC, where skills learned throughout the week were put into practice and ensured players are primed ahead of the 2022 Western Canadian Championships.
For all BC Bears U16 and U18 Teams, the Camps provided the perfect environment to prepare for the upcoming 2022 Western Canadian Championships taking place in Kelowna on July 29-31.
The BC Bears Girls and Boys Provincial Selection Camps are an important pathway step for introducing High-Performance practice and game understanding to our next generation of Provincial and National Age-Grade Athletes.
