On this BC Day, BC Rugby is proud to officially unveiled the playing kit for the 2025 Canada Summer Games Rugby 7s competition, set to take place in St. John’s, Newfoundland on August 11-13.
The striking new kit honours BC’s rich fishing heritage and celebrates the deep maritime connection between British Columbia and Newfoundland and Labrador.
The kit launch took place at the historic Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site in Steveston, BC – once a bustling hub of the West Coast fishing industry and now a heritage site. The site is the original location of early canning, fishing and boatbuilding operations. Arranged along a wooden boardwalk, the unique landscape and collection of heritage buildings tell the stories of the diverse community of people who lived and worked in Steveston over the past 150 years.
Framed by the Fraser River and aged wooden docks, the shoot featured four rising stars of BC Rugby: U18 Girls athletes Ayana Titifanua and Kamryn Howlett, and U20 Boys athletes Ty Driscoll and Liam James. The shoot took place in the Seine Net Loft, which offered the perfect backdrop for a campaign that connects BC’s past and present, while looking forward to a bright future on the national stage.
With the 2025 Games hosted in one of Canada’s most iconic fishing towns, the BC Bears’ kit design pays tribute to the industry that has shaped communities on both coasts. The deep navy base symbolizes the Pacific Ocean, while subtle patterns across the jersey nod to the push and pull of tide and time. Hints of gold reflect the legacy of those who’ve made their living on the water, honouring not only BC’s fishing past, but also the resilience and spirit of its athletes.
The 2025 Canada Summer Games run August 8-25 in St. John’s, with the Rugby 7s competitions taking place August 11-13. BC’s top U18 Girls and U20 Boys players will compete under the Team BC banner, chasing gold while representing the values of community, excellence, and provincial pride. The 2025 kit will be worn in Team BC’s matches throughout the Games – check out some photos from our kit launch below.
