As we progress through the 2025/26 Fall Age-Grade Season, BC Rugby would like to remind all Members, Clubs, and Community of their responsibilities to uphold the values and spirit of the game across all levels of play.
Furthermore, we remind all Members of our Community to be respectful towards Match Officials.
Indiscipline Rise
In recent weeks, there has been a noticeable and unfortunate increase in disciplinary proceedings within Age-Grade Rugby, including a rise in red cards and incidents of foul play. We remind everyone that the primary purpose of Age-Grade Rugby is development – to introduce more young athletes to the game and ensure they have positive, safe, and enjoyable experience. The focus at this level should always be on growth, sportsmanship, and inclusion.
Additionally, for the second successive season, there has been a worrying increase in abusive incidents towards Match Officials to the point that some are questioning their involvement on a weekend.
BC Rugby has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for abuse and the BC Rugby Code of Conduct applies to ALL participants, coaches, management and parents.
Please be respectful towards Officials, Therapists, Medics, Staff and Volunteers at all times.
Scheduling
Clubs and Teams alike are expected to make all efforts to play each of their scheduled Matches and communicate timely with opposing Clubs and BC Rugby.
If a cancellation or default becomes unavoidable, Clubs are required to inform their opponents and BC Rugby as soon as possible. Prompt communication ensures respect for the time and effort invested by players, coaches, officials, and volunteers. Failing to notify in a timely manner disrupts not only the immediate match but also impacts the broader rugby community.
Code of Conduct Reminder
Finally, we encourage all Clubs, Coaches, Team Managers, and Community Members to review the BC Rugby Rules of Competition and Code of Conduct to ensure all participants continue to contribute positively to our community and uphold the standards of behaviour expected across the sport.
Key Information and touchpoints for the 2025/26 Senior and Age-Grade Seasons can be found in the 2025/26 BC Rugby Club Season Guide here.
Together, let’s continue to foster a respectful and inclusive environment where all players can thrive.
