BC Rugby is delighted to announce two upcoming BC Bears Boys Identification and Development Sessions on April 10th at UBC in Vancouver for U17 and U18 athletes, and at UBCO in Kelowna for U15, U16, U17 and U18 athletes.
The sessions are aimed at athletes born in 2004-2008 and will represent the first opportunity for BC Bears coaches to identify the next generation of BC Bears Boys. The sessions will focus on identifying and developing technical skills, as well as decision making.
“I believe athletes are hungry to play and represent BC, so I am very excited for these first opportunities to identify our next generation of Bears beginning with these Identification & Development Camps. Using these sessions, along with the upcoming BC High School Boys Championships in June and the PRCs in July, we hope to see as many prospective players as possible. My hope is that we have a large pool of talented players, who make it difficult for all us coaches to select our final BC Bears team for our staging camp prior to Western Championships in Kelowna at the end of July.” Leana Marton, Head Coach BC Bears U18 Boys
Interested athletes need to register for the April 10th Development Session. One-time registration costs $25 per athlete, with all funds collected going directly to covering program costs.
Athletes must be registered as a BC Rugby Member to participate in any of these camps and have until April 7th to complete their registration in Sportlomo.
There will be Medical Therapists on site for prophylactic taping and emergency care. Athletes are instructed to arrive 30 minutes prior to the session start times for sign-in and bring cleats, mouthguards, water bottles, as well as a suitable lunch or snack.

BEWARE THE BEAR: A NEW ERA
#BewareTheBear – it’s time for a new era.
Moving forward, all BC Rugby Provincial Representative Teams for both XVs and 7s formats will officially be recognised as the BC Bears. BC’s Provincial Representative Teams across all male and female Senior and Age-Grade groups will represent the BC Bears brand. Previously, only the Senior Men’s XVs team was recognised as the BC Bears.
With the launch of several ID and Development camps across multiple age groups, we aim to create unity and build a distinct identity between all our Provincial Representative teams. We hope our players are proud to represent a unified BC both on and off the field.
