Calls for nominations are now open for three prestigious Sport BC Awards, two of which recognize female leaders in sport throughout British Columbia.
Sport BC is now accepting nominations for In Her Footsteps … Celebrating BC Women in Sport and the Bobbie Steen Legacy Foundation Award. The awards are explained in detail below.
The deadline for nominations is October 2, 2023.
Nominations are also open for Sport BC’s Community Sport Hero Awards program which recognizes Coaches, Officials, mentors, and administrators who have dedicated themselves to amateur sport at the community level in British Columbia. The deadline for nominations is August 31, 2023.

IN HER FOOTSTEPS
In Her Footsteps recognizes female leaders in British Columbia who have left a lasting impact on gender equity in physical activity, sports and recreation with a gallery at the BC Sports Hall of Fame.
The purpose of In Her Footsteps is to name and honour women who have made a significant contribution to sport in BC. Nominees can be athletes, coaches, officials, builders, pioneers, teams, officials, and members of the media—any woman whose impact is felt across the BC sport sector and throughout the community.

BOBBIE STEEN LEGACY FOUNDATION AWARD
The Bobbie Steen Legacy Foundation Award was created by Bobbie’s family to recognize and provide financial support to an emerging female leader who demonstrate ongoing commitment to the advancement of gender equity in physical activity, sport, and recreation in BC.
The award celebrates emerging female leaders who have made a difference in the advancement of girls and women in physical activity, sport, and recreation through their actions, passions, and commitment to gender equity, physical activity, sport, and recreation in British Columbia.
The funding is to be used by the recipient to support specific programs or education that champions gender equity. Programming and educational support must be delivered through registered Canadian charities or affiliated with a registered amateur athletic association or educational institution.
The Award of $2,000.00 is generously provided by the Bobbie Steen Legacy Foundation.
Sport BC Community Sport Hero Award
Sport BC’s Community Sport Hero Awards program recognizes coaches, officials, mentors, and administrators who have dedicated themselves to amateur sport at the community levelin British Columbia. Sport BC is excited to relaunch the program with the next stop being in Victoria on September 14, 2023.
Nominations for volunteers in this region are now open and the deadline to submit is August 31, 2023.
