Team BC’s Girls claimed a second successive Canada Summer Games Gold Medal with victory in the 2025 Games, while Team BC’s Boys clinched the silver medal as the Rugby 7s competition wrapped up in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
BC’s U18 Girls came back from a 0-10 deficit against final opponents Ontario and scored four unanswered tries to win 22-10 and successfully retain the gold medal won at the 2022 Niagara Games, while the U20 Boys fell 17-12 in the final play of the game against their Eastern rivals Ontario.
Reports of each final can be found below.
The Rugby 7s competition took place on August 11-13 at Swilers Rugby Club in St. John’s. Victoria and BC Rugby’s Joshua McIndoe was named as flagbearer for Team BC at the Games’ Opening Ceremonies.
“It’s an absolute honour,” said McIndoe. “To not only represent my province on the rugby stage, but also to be recognized as our flag bearer is an absolute honour.”
McIndoe is a natural leader on the pitch, serving as captain for BC Rugby’s U16 and U18 teams as well as Canada’s U20 National Team on their recent tour to Fiji. Off the pitch, he gives back to the community by coaching youth players at his club and volunteering at a local shelter.
“I’ve been lucky enough to be taught by great leaders and I’m definitely still learning myself,” added McIndoe.
Girls Rugby 7s returned to the Games for the first time since its inaugural appearance in Niagara in 2022, while the Boys Rugby 7s competition was reinstated to the Games for the first time since 2009.
BC BEARS U18 GIRLS 7s CLINCH GOLD
Team BC scored 20 unanswered points to defeat Ontario 22-10 and clinch the 2025 Canada Summer Games Rugby 7s Girls Gold Medal.
Ontario controlled the first half with two well-taken tries to lead 10-0 at the break. However, BC hit back at the start of the second half through Tayla Kempf to move within one score.
BC levelled proceedings as Emma Narraway raced clear to score under the posts but the conversion was missed wide. BC finally took the lead as Narraway again capitalised and showed awesome pace to break clear for a 15-10 lead inside the final two minutes.
Kamryn Howlett wrapped up a historic victory with a smartly taken try at the final whistle, with the extras added for a historic win.

BC BEARS U20 BOYS 7s WIN SILVER MEDAL
The BC Bears U20 Boys 7s settled for the silver medal after dropping 17-12 to Ontario in a thrilling encounter that saw the Eastern side clinch gold with the last play of the game.
After a tense opening minute, Team BC capitalized on a loose pass with some excellent defensive play to recover the ball. Reece Thompson raced clear and beat three red shirts to cross under the posts with Ty Driscoll adding the extras for 7-0.
Elijah Palov added a second midway in the first half with a well-worked try in the far corner.
Ontario was awarded a 7-point penalty try in the last play of the first half as Reece Thompson was penalised for a high tackle, and subsequently shown a yellow card.
That meant Team BC were shorthanded for the first two minutes of the second period, and Ontario made the extra man count to tie the game up at 12-12. With BC back to full strength, neither team could find a breakthrough until Ontario stole clear in the final play to break BC hearts.
