Touch Rugby is coming to Victoria’s MacDonald Park this May – come and get involved in the action!
Rifflandia Music Festival and The Rugby Shop has announced the first annual “Can’t Touch This” Rugby Tournament, hosted during the Spot Prawn Festival on May 27-28 at MacDonald Park, home of James Bay AA, in Victoria.
The tournament will take place between 1:00pm-4:00pm on both days – see below for details and how to register.
TOURNAMENT DETAILS
- Saturday features Senior Men and Women athletes in any gender combination.
- Sunday features Age Grade (U16 to 18) or Heritage (over 30) athletes in any gender combination.
- Teams must be a minimum of five (5) players or a maximum of ten (10).
- There will be changerooms, a shade area by the field and warmup pitch.
- Team sheets must be submitted no later than one week prior to the tournament.
- Tournament package will go out May 15th with the schedules.
- Registration is $80 per team + GST.
TOURNAMENT RULES OF ENGAGEMENT
- 10-minute games, 5 players a side with fluid substitution.
- 6 touches total, must retreat 5m back each touch (offside penalty will result).
- A variation of Touch Rugby rules may be applied by the referee in the heat of the moment.
- Pool play followed by quarter-final, semi-final and grande finale for each day.
- Awards for best dressed team theme (must be consistent colours and team jerseys are fine).
- Cash prizes for spectacular skill display.
- Rifflandia Passes for Grande Finale winners each day.

As noted above, “Can’t Touch This” Rugby Tournament is part of the Spot Prawn Festival featuring live music, street vendors and some questionably good displays of a great sport.
This is a fundraiser for James Bay Athletic Association, the second oldest Rugby Club in Canada. Festival hours are 12:00pm-7:00pm on Saturday, May 27 and 11:00am-6:00pm Sunday, May 28th.
