BC Rugby is delighted to welcome Yukon Rugby as a new Affiliate Member.
Yukon Rugby Federation (YRF) aims to grow and develop Rugby programming in the Territory, with a focus on inclusion, education, competition, and fun. Whether you are working a seasonal job in Whitehorse and have never played Rugby before, a former southern Rugby player now residing in the Yukon, or a competitive varsity athlete working a co-op job in the Yukon, the YRF hopes to provide Members with a meaningful Rugby experience.
By joining BC Rugby as an Affiliate Member, Yukon Rugby is eager to partner with existing BC Rugby Clubs to provide more travel tournament opportunities for its Age-Grade teams.
Yukon Rugby aims to offer fun, inclusive and educational Rugby opportunities at all levels, from Touch Rugby to full contact tournaments, and promote the values of our sport in the North.
“We here at the Yukon Rugby Federation are extremely excited to become a BC Rugby Affiliate Member. We hope to work and collaborate with other teams and Clubs in BC as much as possible. If you reside in BC and plan on coming through the Yukon for 2 weeks or 2 years, please get in touch – we would love to welcome you out to our sessions. The YRF is eager to grow Rugby in Canada’s North and we hope to eventually host travelling sevens teams from out of territory. As we grow, we look forward to connecting with other clubs in BC as an option for our youth and senior teams to travel to for tournaments and friendlies.” – Charlie Feht, Yukon Rugby Federation
“We are delighted to welcome the Yukon Rugby Federation to the BC Rugby family. This marks an important step in helping grow and develop Rugby in the North, and will help create meaningful links and bonds between BC Rugby Clubs and Yukon Rugby.” – David Newson, BC Rugby CEO

YUKON RUGBY Federation PROGRAMMING
Youth Programming:
The YRF has been working hard to develop grassroots Rugby programming for High School aged players. It focuses primarily on Rugby 7s format and has initiated Rugby programming at one local Whitehorse High School that now regularly sends competitive teams to compete in Alberta. In 2024, programming has expanded to two more high schools in Whitehorse and the YRF will be running competitive U16 and U18 level boys and girls travel teams during the summer/fall, and hope to develop a travelling territorial Club team that will eventually compete at the 2025 Canada Summer Games.
Mini Rugby Programming:
The YRF has partnered with the City of Whitehorse’s Recreation Team to offer introduction/Rookie Rugby programs to kids aged 9-12 over the winter months. The YRF aims to grow the community enough to offer this age group year-round rugby opportunities, and to develop a pathway to safe and fun rugby.
Senior Rugby Programming:
The YRF will bring back its Senior Men’s Touring side with the aim of returning to compete at the Midnight Sun Sevens tournament in Anchorage, AK. It will also aim to host several Rugby 7s Mini-Tournaments within Whitehorse this coming summer. The overall goal for YRF is to host out-of-territory Clubs for these Sevens tournaments. As the Rugby community in the Yukon continues to grow, indoor and outdoor Touch Rugby programming is also offered year-round and welcomes Rugby players of all experiences and backgrounds.
