Rugby Canada has named its 13-man roster for the much-anticipated HSBC Canada Sevens Vancouver taking place at BC Place this weekend, featuring seven BC natives.
Abbotsford’s Jake Thiel (Abbotsford RFC), North Vancouver’s Nick Allen (UBC), Vancouver’s Phil Berna (Vancouver Rowing Club) and Elias Ergas (UBC), and Victoria’s Anton Ngongo (Castaway Wanderers), Brennig Prevost (UVIV Vikes) and Lachlan Kratz (NOLA Gold) all make the squad. Pacific Pride duo D’Shawn Bowen (Toronto, Ontario) and Matthew Oworu (Calgary, Alberta) also make the roster.
Thiel and Allen return to Head Coach Henry Paul’s side having been absent for last week’s Singapore Sevens. Berna captains the side in his home town.
Final preparations are being made ahead of the tournament with Vancouver readied to host the world’s best sevens teams, including the likes of New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Fiji and the Canadians. Tickets, with limited availability in some categories, can be purchased here.
“The opportunity to compete against the world’s best teams in front of a passionate Canadian crowd is a thrilling prospect for this group of players. Having played in front of a reduced crowd in 2021, the team is excited to be back in front of a full-capacity BC Place this weekend for what is sure to be an incredible two-days of rugby sevens action.” Head Coach Henry Paul
