The BC Bears Senior Men’s team were crowned inaugural 2026 Canada Cup Champions as they defeated the travelling Ontario Blues by an aggregate scoreline of 68-21 across two action-packed games last week.
Thanks to funding from the Canadian Rugby Foundation and kit donation by O’Neills Sportswear, Senior Men’s Provincial Representative Rugby returned to BC for the first time this side of the pandemic as the Bears hosted the Blues in an epic two-match Series that saw close to 2,000 fans in attendance.
This new Series aims to strengthen interprovincial competition and offer athletes the opportunity to test themselves against some of the country’s best. For Rugby fans, it’s a rare chance to witness high-intensity provincial Senior Men’s Rugby in their own communities.
The first match saw the Bears run out 36-14 winners in front of a full house at West Vancouver’s Capilano RFC on Wednesday, May 20. One thousand fans packed sidelines as the Bears produced a scintillating display of expansive rugby in front of the raucous home crowd.
Following Wednesday’s win, the Bears took a 22-point advantage into Game 2, hosted at a sun-drenched Shawnigan Lake School on Saturday, May 23. The Bears weathered an early storm before running riot against their Eastern opponents, racing into a 32-0 lead before Ontario touched down in the dying minutes to prevent a bagel loss.
The Bears lifted the Canada Cup, presented by Shawnigan Lake School Head of Sport and BC Rugby Director of the Board, Tim Murdy, in front of their fans to bring an epic two-match Series to a close.
Credit goes to the Ontario Blues, who showed tremendous spirit throughout their three-match Tour, for a valiant battle on the field. The Blues kicked off proceedings with a 47-19 victory over the Vancouver Island Tide at UVIC’s Wallace Field on Saturday, May 17, as part of the Tide’s 150th Anniversary Celebrations.
Below are the match videos from the Full Tour.
