Club History
In 1923 by Bill Edwards and 11 other swimmers from the Kitsilano area in Vancouver, Canada founded an amateur athletic organization called their club the Mermaids, and in the years following the club grew to include Canadian Football and Rugby Football. As the club grew to include other sports besides swiimming, the members developed a new name, suggested by Douglas Hand. Taking "Mer" from the original Mermaids, and adding "al" from alpha, "om" from omega (the first and last letters of the the Greek alphabet) and "a" from "always" the Meralom name was born and that is to mean "Mermaids, first, last and always". Later, the permanent Club motto found favour: "Once a Meraloma Always a Meraloma".
Our Values
Our Clubhouse and home ground is located at Connaught Park in Kitsilano, which is the beach-side district in the heart of Vancouver. We compete in the British Columbia Rugby Union and have Men's, Women's, Junior, Senior and Mini teams.
The Meralomas cater to all interested players at various skill and commitment levels. If you have been playing and enjoying the sport for years, or just wanting to check it out and give it a go, come on down and join the fun!
