Welcome to the 2025 BC Rugby Vancouver Sevens Invitational (VSI) in partnership with Sport Hosting Vancouver Event Page!
The two-day tournament kicks off the 2025 BC Rugby Events calendar and will take place at UBC’s Gerald McGavin Centre on February 20-21, 2025 ahead of the 2025 HSBC SVNS Vancouver. The event will provide a complete Sevens experience for participants, with gameplay and the opportunity to watch world-class international competition at BC Place.
Taking place in the week leading up to the 2025 HSBC SVNS Vancouver, the VSI aims to provide appropriate competition to motivate, challenge and inspire young athletes, Coaches and Officials, and bring together elite youth 7s players from across all regions of BC and beyond.
BC Rugby acknowledges the 2025 VSI will take place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) First Nation.

EVENT DETAILS & MAP
Location: UBC, Gerald McGavin Rugby Centre, 2765 Westbrook Mall, Vancouver, BC
Dates: February 20-21, 2025
Cost: This event is free entry.

Thunderbird Parkade: 6085 Thunderbird Blvd, Vancouver, BC V6T 2A1
Daytime Rates: 6am-6pm – $2.00 for half hour – Max $20
Evenings & Weekends Rates: $2.00 for half hour – Max $10
Osborne Lot: 6108 Thunderbird Boulevard
Rates: $4.00/hr Max. 4hrs
Changerooms: No teams will have allocated changerooms for the weekend. With the high number of players in attendance we ask all teams to change prior to arriving at the fields.
Bathrooms: Washrooms are located throughout the venue.
Concessions: Food trucks will be on site – these will be posted here once confirmed by BC Rugby.
Merchandise: O’Neills will have a merchandise stand available on site selling both VSI and BC Rugby merchandise!
Water: Please bring your reusable water bottle for the weekend and fill it up at the water stations located throughout the park.
Inclement Weather: BC Rugby will have an alternative plan should matched be unable to take place due to inclement weather. An Indoor facility with artificial turf has been booked at the Scotiabarn facility In Burnaby. Although the long-term forecast looks favourable, BC Rugby will confirm the status of the alternative plan by Tuesday, February 18.
VOLUNTEER AT VSI
BC Rugby is seeking volunteers to help across a variety of roles at the 2025 Vancouver Sevens Invitational.
Without volunteers, this event would not be possible.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Volunteers will be provided details on their role prior to the event. Volunteers will then be given a brief orientation onsite before beginning their shifts. Each shift will be 4 hours and volunteers will be provided with snacks and drinks.

ROLES
Below are the different roles which will be on offer:
- Score Runners – Collecting scores from officials and relaying to event HQ
- Site Assistant – Collecting trash, checking and cleaning facilities as needed
- Field Control – Make sure games are on time getting teams on field, identify medical help if required flagging down therapists, Direct teams and personnel in the right direction, ensure spectators stay off field and officials have room to complete their roles
- Field Set up – Set up flags and post pads, tents, cameras, and signage near field of play
- Field Take down – Take down flags, post pads, tents, cameras, signage from field of play
- Scoreboard operator – Score and time keeping (CRITICAL to keeping everything running on time)
- Ball Retrievers – Retrieving balls and keeping games moving

The purpose of the Vancouver Sevens Invitational (VSI) is to foster the growth of competitive Rugby throughout British Columbia while also serving to prepare athletes for Provincial Regional Championships. The VSI aims to provide stage appropriate competition to motivate, challenge and inspire young players, as well as Coaches and Officials.
U18 Boys Division Purpose: Identification and preparation for BC Bears 7s program to participate in 2025 Global Youth Sevens.
U18 Girls Division Purpose: Preparation and Selection for 2024 Canada Summer Games Tournament.
U16 Boys Division Purpose: Opportunity for Pathway exposure and development opportunities in a regional format.
U16 Girls Division Purpose: Opportunity for Pathway exposure and development opportunities in a regional format.

The schedule is very tight with games, so we ask all teams to assist us in staying on time by being ready in the tunnel under the Gerald McGavin Centre Main Stand five minutes prior to kickoff.
LIVESTREAM SCHEDULE
All games from Fields 1 and 2 will be livestreamed on February 20-21. All games will be live-streamed via the BC Rugby YouTube page.

MEDAL PRESENTATIONS
With bronze and gold medal matches for each division taking place simultaneously on Fields 1 and 2 on Friday afternoon, presentations for gold, silver and bronze medals will take place immediately afterward respective divisions finish. Medals will be presented between Fields 1 and 2 in front of the grandstand after each round of finals.
REMINDER: All parents and fans MUST remain in the grandstand for medal presentations as we are on a tight schedule with game times.

Rugby Canada’s Sevens Law Variations (page 12) will be used for this event.

PATHWAY TO BC BEARS
The 2025 VSI will act as a critical stage of the selection process for the 2025 BC Bears Age-Grade U18 7s Programs.
In line with the BC Rugby Selection Policy, we aim to provide several opportunities for players, as individuals and as part of a team, to demonstrate their ability and character.
BC Bears 7s Program Coaches will attend the 2025 VSI 7s to identify players for selection ahead of the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as the 2025 Global Youth Sevens in December.

BE PREPARED – CONCUSSION MODULE
BC Rugby’s number one priority is player safety and adheres to World Rugby’s policy of ‘Recognise and Remove’ when dealing with concussions or suspected concussions.
IF IN DOUBT, SIT THEM OUT.
Any player suspected or suffering from concussion should be immediately removed from the training session or match, and not permitted to return until they have completed a full Return to Play Protocol and cleared by a physician.
Coaches & Team Staff
BC Rugby requests that all Coaches and team staff complete the World Rugby Concussion Management for the General Public Certification. Note all certifications are only valid for two years, all certifications must have a date of February 21, 2023 or later.
Coaches and staff must upload a copy of their Concussion Module certificate on their Sportlomo profile.
General Public
Anyone on or around the Rugby pitch has a responsibility to be aware of the symptoms of concussion and are encouraged to annually complete World Rugby’s online Concussion Management module to learn more.
We also strongly encourage parents, guardians, partners or housemates of Rugby players to complete the online module to be informed.
