2023 Saratoga Cup
Held over two days, the Saratoga Cup brings together BC’s most geographically dispersed Clubs, from north-west to south-east, and is one of the most prestigious events in the BC Rugby calendar.
The Saratoga Cup is contested by teams from three regions: the Okanagan, the Kootenays, and the Interior. Contrary to the Island and Lower Mainland Rugby communities, these regions play their Rugby during the summer months on account of the challenging winter weather that they experience between Fall and Spring.
The 2023 Saratoga Cup will be hosted by 2021 and 2022 champions Rocky Mountain Rogues at the College of the Rockies in Cranbrook. The purpose of the Saratoga Cup is to foster the growth of competitive Rugby throughout the Interior and Northern regions of British Columbia and provide a final event for BC Rugby’s Summer League Competition.
The 2023 Saratoga Cup will feature both Men’s XVs and Women’s 7s competition throughout the weekend. Men’s teams will compete two semi-finals on the Saturday, with the winners advancing to Sunday’s final. Semi-final losers will contest a third-place playoff on Sunday.
Subject to teams entered, the Women’s 7s competition will likely include round-robin play on the Saturday with teams re-seeded for Sunday’s playoff matches.
BC Rugby will be recording all matches at the 2023 Saratoga Cup, and will endeavor to live-stream the full weekend.
