University of Victoria Vikes captured its second Canada West Rugby 7s tournament title of the season as the hosts put in another impressive showing at Victoria’s Wallace Field.
The Vikes made it back-to-back tournament wins with a perfect 5-0 record over the weekend, with UBC Thunderbirds taking second place thanks to its 4-1 record.
Vikes defeated Thunderbirds 34-12 in the Gold Medal match, with tries from Sara Kalijuvee (2), Larah Wright, Krista Scurfield, Alexie Pusch and Kira Peary. Savannah Bauder crossed over twice for the Thunderbirds.
Lethbridge University took third spot thanks to a 19-12 victory over Alberta in the bronze medal match.
Calgary Dinos secured fifth place with a 41-0 shutout win over Trinity Western Spartans, while the Victoria Vikes – Blue team took seventh spot.
The 2022 Canada West Rugby 7s Series heads to University of British Columbia in Vancouver for the final tournament of the season on February 25-26.
