After an undefeated debut at the Canada Summer Games, Team BC has been shortlisted for Team of the Year at Sport BC’s 55th Annual Athlete of the Year Awards. 

BC Rugby’s U18 Girls 7s Team, led by Coaches Darcy Patterson and Madison Gold, are among the five Teams nominated for the Annual Awards taking place on Thursday March 9th, 2023, at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Alongside nominees Langley Rams Football Team, Trinity Western Women’s Volleyball Team, UBC Women’s Golf Team, and UVIC Women’s Field Hockey Team, Team BC is the sole Provincial Team to be recognized.

The nomination comes after the Team entered the Canada Summer Games’ first-ever Rugby 7s Competition and won a staggering 6 matches to claim the National Title. With 232 points scored and only 17 points conceded, the 10-strong BC Team defeated teams from PEI, Quebec, Newfoundland and Manitoba in the two-day pool play, and went on to win their Semi-Final against Ontario and Final against Quebec to secure the the gold, while showcasing their skills and passion for the game all week long.
