The 2022 Age-Grade Club Season came to a close this weekend after the U18 Boys Final finished with UBCOB Ravens defeating Salish Sea Warriors 26-17.
Taking place at Langford’s Starlight Stadium on Saturday February 4, the U18 Boys Division saw an epic Championship crossover match between the Mainland’s UBCOB Ravens and the Island’s Salish Sea Warriors.
In what was a true nail-bitter, both teams played strong and maintained a close point differential throughout the match.
After two lead changes in the first 30 minutes of play, the Ravens were able to gain the advantage in the second half with a try early on.
Under pressure from not only a rigid defence but also the diminishing clock, Salish needed to dig deep in order to regain the lead. They started to dominate possession in the later stages of the game with a late score from a barrage of carries in the Ravens 22.
Although, the Ravens refused to give in and forced a mishandle on the ensuing kick-off from Salish. They managed to capitalize with an opportunistic score of their own, scooping up the loose ball to sprint in under the Salish posts.
As the clock timed out, this try secured the gold and 2022 Championship title for the Mainlanders, winning 26-17 over the Island side.
This match was the last Final to be rescheduled following the cancellation of the 2022 Age-Grade Club Finals event hosted at Cowichan Rugby Club due to poor weather and field conditions.
