Week 1 of the 2022 BC Rugby Spring Senior Leagues got off to an exciting start as Clubs in the Lower Mainland returned to the pitch following the winter break.
Several Clubs produced strong performances to put their names firmly in contention for the BC Rugby Senior Club Finals in May.

Impressive Showings on Opening Week
BC Rugby Men’s Premier League, presented by Onni
The 2018 and 2019 champions UBCOB Ravens began its quest for a “three-peat” of BC Rugby Men’s Premier League, presented by Onni titles with a convincing 84-8 victory over Westshore RFC at Jericho Beach Park.
While there is still plenty of Rugby to play, the Ravens laid down its championship credentials with a fine bonus point win.
UBC RFC saw off a depleted James Bay AA side with a bonus-point 89-0 win at Gerald McGavin Centre to move top of the table. Castaway Wanderers triumphed 33-13 against Burnaby Lake RFC to secure the bonus point, while the Pacific Pride also earned five points for a hard-fought 36-22 bonus-point victory over University of Victoria Vikes.
Meanwhile, Meraloma RFC edged past Vancouver Rowing Club 34-31 to kick its season off with a win.
Women’s Premier League
UBC’s Vancouver Thunderbirds started off in style with a bonus-point victory over 2019 champions Capilano to give the Vancouver University an unbeaten opening weekend across both Premier Divisions.
Westshore RFC, Castaway Wanderers and Seattle Rugby Club are still to play.
Men’s Division 1
2019 champions UBCOB Ravens stormed past Westshore RFC 84-0 to complete a high-scoring weekend of wins at Jericho Beach Park.
However, Bayside Sharks set a blistering pace to this year’s competition with a 91-0 victory over Cowichan RFC at South Surrey Park.
UBC RFC defeated Langley 40-20 in its opening match of the season, while Meraloma downed Vancouver Rowing Club 36-0 at Connaught Park.
Women’s Division 1
Several impressive performance caught the eye in opening weekend of the Women’s Division 1.
Castaway Wanderers beat Burnaby Lake 33-13 at Windsor Park, as Cowichan RFC scored a solid road win with a 34-12 victory at Bayside.
UBC’s Vancouver Thunderbirds earned a 20-0 win over United RFC (conceded by United RFC), and Simon Fraser RC defeated Meraloma 29-17 to begin its campaign with a win.
Men’s Division 2
In the lone fixture from Men’s Division 2 on opening weekend, Scribes RFC clinched a well-fought victory over Simon Fraser RC at Rupert Park. The hosts clung on to seal an 18-14 win.
Men’s Division 3
Bayside Sharks set the early pace in the Men’s Division 3 with a 59-5 victory at Scribes RFC. Burnaby Lake RFC tied up a tense 24-22 win against Kelowna Crows, while Castaway Wanderers impressed with a 33-0 win at the University of Victoria Vikes.
Kats RFC kicked off its season with a battling 36-29 win against the Meraloma Rogues.
