Rugby is back in British Columbia for 2022 – and it has been a busy start to the year for BC officials!
It isn’t just Clubs and players who have been busy planning for the new Spring season. Our referees have been training hard in preparation for the return of our Senior leagues, kicking off on January 29th.
Rugby officiating opens doors globally, with several top BC officials having already been selected to officiate big international events on the horizon.
Julianne Zussman has been selected to officiate at the upcoming Six Nations U20 Championship, which returns to its usual format this year – following the same weekends as the Senior Men’s championship. Zussman recently officiated the HSBC Spain Sevens Women’s Cup Final in Malaga.
Chris Assmus has been selected to referee Major League Rugby for the upcoming 2022 season, including the first ever MLR regular season match to be hosted in British Columbia. The Toronto Arrows take on the Los Angeles Giltinis at Langford’s Starlight Stadium on February 11.
Brad Schwalger has been selected as an Assistant Referee in MLR for 2022, while Shanda Assmus has been selected as a TMO for the North American competition. Shanda will also head to Dubai to officiate the Rugby World Cup repechage, for qualification for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
